A Message from the CEO
“LET’S EMPOWER” – The thought behind what makes CEDB different.
Established in the year 2006, Clean Energy Development Bank (CEDB) is resolutely shaped on the simple premise, “let’s empower”.
For CEDB, the slogan, “let’s empower” is more than just a motivational catch phrase, it is a firm reminder of what makes it special in the face of numerous other financial intermediaries in the country. The phrase is all about heartening CEDB’s mission to empower the nation through innovative macro and micro financial solutions that is effectively customized to adhere to the needs of the Nepali consumer in addition to its key USP – adopting and creating new concepts and systems to develop renewable energy as the new source of power for the future.
In this era of globalization, where every aspect of life in Nepal is driven by the use of fossil (plus traditional) fuels - problems such as decreasing levels of fuel, reliance on other countries for the same and various diseases as a result of pollution give the impression of a bleak future. Add to that the devastating effects of global warming as well as the consequential damages to the eco-system through unsustainable utilization of natural resources and Nepal is going to have a major catastrophe in its hands.
However, all said and done; these current and future consequences can be gradually mitigated through the extensive use of renewable energy. CEDB with a culmination of its comprehensive vision has set eyes on this silver lining and evaluated Nepal’s huge renewable energy resources such as hydropower, solar, wind and biomass that still lie untapped. But then again, given the landlocked nature and the ever so varying terrain of Nepal it is apparent that no single solution can meet the society's future energy needs.
Hence, CEDB, believes that the solution lies instead in creating and fostering the four main pillars for attaining the clean energy future, namely; a) utilizing a family of diverse energy technologies that share a common thread, b) formulation of sustainable energy policies, c) facilitation of financial capacity building and d) adaptation to energy efficient practices. CEDB is making tireless efforts to lead through these towers of strength, as they are fundamental to realizing Nepal’s renewable energy potential as well as a healthier national economy by effectively utilizing natural resources through a sustainable approach that does not destroy the environment.
Transition from conventional sources of energy to renewable sources is not easy but is attainable if collective endeavors are made towards this direction. CEDB is striving to strengthen collective efforts to encourage a massive scale up of renewable technologies. That level of scale up is needed by the bank and renewables sector to effectively stimulate the crucial function of building a stable long term, low-carbon national economy that promotes energy security, industrial development with local socio-economic development and our means to mitigating climate change, all in all, the attainment of Nepal’s clean energy needs for the future.
Hence CEDB’s motto “Let’s empower” is more about empowering Nepal’s tomorrow than just today itself.
